CNWL Sexual Health Services launch new Quick PrEP Service ahead of World AIDS Day
25 November 2024
Ahead of World AIDS Day on 1 December, CNWL’s sexual health services have signalled their ongoing commitment to improving access to HIV prevention by launching a new ‘Quick PrEP’ service. PrEP is a preventative medication taken by people who are HIV-negative to protect them from contracting the virus – it is 99%+ effective when taken correctly.
While PrEP is a clinical gamechanger – with the potential to eliminate new HIV transmissions entirely – challenges remain to increase awareness and improve access to the medication for everyone who can benefit. The new Quick PrEP service improves patient experience and increases available capacity for PrEP by halving the time that patients spend in clinic. Patients complete an online form to have their PrEP prescribed remotely. Once prescribed, patients book a rapid appointment to collect their PrEP from clinic and complete a sexual health screen while there.
The Quick PrEP service is available to all patients who have previously accessed PrEP at one of CNWL’s London clinics – Mortimer Market Centre, Archway Centre or Edgware Community Hospital. Patients can collect their PrEP from Mortimer Market Centre or Archway Centre. To use the service, click here.
London PrEP Programme Manager, Dominic Reilly, said,
“Patient feedback strongly indicates that those already on PrEP want to replenish their PrEP supply as quickly and conveniently as possible. After launching our Online PrEP service last year, the new Quick PrEP service offers another way for patients to get hold of more PrEP while spending minimal time in clinic. As well as improving patient experience, this ensures patients are more likely to maintain a constant supply of medication, supporting good adherence and ongoing protection from HIV”.
In the video below, Dominic talks through the the different ways you can access more PrEP medication from CNWL when you run out. These different pathways are only for people who have previously accessed PrEP from one of our London clinics.
